S&P (S&P 50 Index, SPX)

S&P refers to the S&P 500 (Standard & Poor’s 500 Index), a stock market index that tracks the performance of 500 of the largest publicly traded U.S. companies. It’s widely considered the best overall gauge of U.S. equity market performance.

SPX is the ticker symbol for the S&P 500 Index when referring to it in the context of index trading or derivatives, such as options.
