ESF (Exchange Stabilization Fund)

ESF can refer to different entities, but in the context of U.S. finance and government operations, ESF most commonly means the Exchange Stabilization Fund. Originally created to stabilize the U.S. dollar after the Great Depression, it is now used to:

  • Intervene in foreign exchange markets.
  • Provide short-term emergency financing.
  • Support international financial stability.
